Smyrna Public Art Master Plan

Smyrna, Georgia

WHY

The goal for the Smyrna Public Art Master Plan was to create a unified, intentional framework that celebrates Smyrna’s many stories and shares public art across all seven of its wards. The overarching vision was to seamlessly weave creativity into the daily lives of all residents, transforming everyday spaces into meaningful landmark experiences. To achieve this, we focused on establishing equitable access to the arts, celebrating Smyrna’s diverse cultural narrative, and creating a sustainable ecosystem for local creatives. Ultimately, our objectives were to outline practical funding mechanisms, define priority zones for immediate artistic investment, and provide the city with a concrete strategy to build a vibrant sense of place.

HOW

The core of our engagement strategy involved immersing ourselves in Smyrna’s neighborhoods, hosting a community survey, stakeholder interviews, and public pop-ups to ensure every voice was heard. Through this inclusive process, we translated community aspirations into technical planning data, collaborating hand-in-hand with city leaders to design a roadmap that is as logistically sound as it is creatively inspired.

WHAT

The final plan serves as an actionable, visionary blueprint that equips Smyrna with the tools to confidently build and maintain a thriving public art ecosystem. Key deliverables included a comprehensive policy manual, administration guidelines, site-specific recommendations for landmark installations, and a toolkit for community-led pocket projects. Among the plan’s most significant achievements was building unanimous, enthusiastic alignment between city officials and local advocacy groups, securing a clear path forward for implementation. The ultimate outcomes of this work go far beyond the pages of a document; it establishes a legacy that protects Smyrna’s unique character, empowers local creatives, and shapes a more vibrant city where people truly want to be.
