Chamblee, Georgia

WHY

Chamblee, a small city wedged between Doraville and Brookhaven in Metro Atlanta, is a growing community home to innovators, business owners, entrepreneurs, artists, and community members. Like other communities in the region, Chamblee was exploring how to differentiate itself from other nearby cities with unique arts offerings. City leaders decided it was time to create an Arts Master Plan to guide their future investment in art and culture.

HOW

Designing Local conducted extensive public engagement to elicit the community’s vision for Chamblee, then used their feedback to create the first-ever Chamblee Arts Master Plan.

WHAT

The Arts Master Plan recommended that the city establish a Cultural Arts Department and a Public Art Program and Commission to work with the Mayor and Council on all projects, programs, and facilities pertaining to Chamblee’s arts and culture. Specific projects under consideration include the creation of an arts center and a Rail Trail, significant downtown development, an autonomous circulator, and the intentional development of housing throughout the city.
